About the Event
In primary and secondary school settings, difficulties managing emotional discomfort can take many forms - from outward displays of anger to withdrawal; avoidance; reassurance seeking and checking; numbing; and self-harming.
Join this Be You event to hear from Dr Madeline Wishart*, Clinical Psychologist, about how you can empower students at your school to build distress tolerance skills and respond to challenging emotions.
You will learn how to:
Form an understanding of the fundamental concepts behind distress tolerance, and how it differs from emotional regulation
Reflect on how personal beliefs about distress influence the way you respond to students in emotional distress
Recognise how students' perceptions of their own distress affect their ability to cope
