About the Event

In primary and secondary school settings, difficulties managing emotional discomfort can take many forms - from outward displays of anger to withdrawal; avoidance; reassurance seeking and checking; numbing; and self-harming.

Join this Be You event to hear from Dr Madeline Wishart*, Clinical Psychologist, about how you can empower students at your school to build distress tolerance skills and respond to challenging emotions.

You will learn how to:

  • Form an understanding of the fundamental concepts behind distress tolerance, and how it differs from emotional regulation

  • Reflect on how personal beliefs about distress influence the way you respond to students in emotional distress

  • Recognise how students' perceptions of their own distress affect their ability to cope
